It’s January again, the start of another year!  If over indulgence at Christmas and a heady wave of good intentions have resulted in some New Year Resolutions then read on.  We have put together some of our top tips on how to achieve your health and fitness goals without breaking the bank.

Achieve your fitness goals on a budget.

University Sports Clubs – Both Gloucester University and Hartpury College offer a wide range of sporting clubs from football and hockey to dodgeball and tennis.  You don’t need to be a professional athlete to join in, just turn up, have fun and make new friends!  Visit Gloucester University or Hartpury College to find out more.

The University gym is discounted for students, visit Gloucester University Gym or Hartpury College Gym.  There is a wide range of equipment, fitness classes and training opportunities on offer.  All tailored to you and your goals.

Increase Fitness at Home – There has been a rise in trainers taking to social media such as You Tube or Instagram to help the nation get fit, especially since lockdown.  There is an extensive library of workouts to suit all abilities from yoga to aerobics.  Take a look through to find something you can do in the comfort of your own home.  Joe Wickes might be the obvious one but there are plenty to choose from!

Free Fitness Apps – There are hundreds of apps that are free such as Couch to 5k and Strava.  Simply download onto your phone and choose the training routine that suits you.  With step by step guides to build you up they are an excellent budget-busting way to get fit.  Share your workouts with friends and challenge each other to stay on track.

Walk or Run – get out to your local park and see the sights.  Adding some running or walking into your daily routine does not require a huge outlay.  Pull on some comfy clothes and a pair of trainers and off you go. It’s a great way to clear your mind and get some fresh air.

Cut down – consuming less junk food and fizzy drinks is a great way to get healthier and shed some pounds at the same time.  Getting rid of some takeaways will also be good for your wallet too – you can’t lose!
