There’s no doubt about it, long distance relationships can be hard work. Whether you are both at different Universities or one has stayed at home, there will be challenges to face. But it’s not all tears and heartache.
Stay Connected
Long distance relationships can bring you closer in the end. The time you spend together will be something to look forward to, and you will appreciate each other more. It’s important to keep communication open and honest, and be clear about your expectations. Find a way to keep in touch that works for you – FaceTime, text, Snapchat…. There’s so much technology available today to stay connected.
Cheap Travel
Make the most of the time you spend together, plan long weekends and even travel to new places to make it special. There are plenty of ways to get cheap travel – Student Railcards or download the Ticket Split app.
It’s ok to have different experiences, and remember this won’t last forever. When you do come through the other end you will have created more memories, a bond of trust and a stronger relationship.
Watch a Movie
There are plenty of movies out there you can watch with a feel-good factor to long distance relationships. Grab some popcorn and settle down when you see each other or watch together on FaceTime.
You can’t go wrong with the classics from Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks – Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail are great choices. Or for something more modern try Dear John where a couple deal with the reality of a long distance relationship communicating only through love letters.
And remember ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder!’
